Manitoba Proclaims Gandhi Day
September 16, 2008 excerpt from a The Winnipeg Free Press article:
Manitoba Premier Gary Doer will today proclaim Oct. 2 Mahatma Gandhi Day in the province, part of a nation-wide marking of that day to honour the late Indian political and spiritual leader.
Oct. 2 is actually Gandhi’s birthday and the Winnipeg-based society honouring him wants Canadians to remember Gandhi’s contributions to peace and non-violence.
Doer will make the proclamation at an 11 a.m. ceremony at the Legislature, said the Mahatma Gandhi Centre of Canada Inc., in a news release.
